All of us at Pivotal LLP hope you remain healthy and stay safe during these unusual times. Below is a summary for our existing personal tax clients as well as any new clients that need help filing 2019 taxes:

Deadlines

As you probably already heard, the personal tax filing deadline has been extended from April 30th to June 1st, 2020. Any tax owing or instalments payment deadlines have been extended until September 1st, 2020. You can read more on this here: https://pivotalcpa.ca/news/tax/150-2020-tax-deadlines. Our recommendation is still to prepare your return at your earliest convenience to avoid any bottlenecks during the month of May. Furthermore, if you typically get a refund, it is in your best interest to file it sooner to get that refund.

Your options for personal tax returns

Our office has been closed to the public but work is still being done by our staff from home and from the office. There could be delays in responding to your inquiries but we are doing our best to stay on top of things given the circumstances.

How to submit your documents:

Option 1: Using ShareFile tool or directly emailing information to your accountant.

Option 2: Physically dropping off your records in our drop box outside the office doors. Your records will be picked up the same day and quarantined for a while in order to ensure the safety of our staff.

Signing documents:

Option 1: CRA has allowed e-signatures as a temporary measure. We have implemented the software to allow us provide this option to you. Any documents that need your signature can now be signed using e-signature via software called RightSignature. We may reach out to you to ensure we have correct email addresses for all members of your family.

Options 2: We can email you the forms via regular PDFs that you can print, sign and then email back the signed copies.

Option 3: We can mail you the forms for signature, and the signed copies can be mailed back or dropped off at the physical drop box outside our doors. This option will take time and you need to ensure there is enough time before the June 1st filing deadline.

Getting your returns and documents:

Option 1: Your return, all slips, our letter and invoice can be emailed to you in PDF form. Any remaining documents that cannot be scanned are to be picked up at a later date or mailed.

Option 2: You can wait until our office is reopened to pick up your physical return. We will follow government guidelines on reopening the office to the public as there is no clarity on the date yet.

Option 3: We can mail or courier your return and documents (surcharge will apply for courier service).

We value your business and hope to accommodate everyone's needs during these unusual times. Please reach out to us directly if you have any questions or need more clarification on the options above.
